About ICDS:from wikipedia

Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) (Hindi: समेकित बाल विकास सेवाए), Government of India sponsored programme, is India's primary social welfare scheme to tackle malnutrition and health problems in children below 6 years of age and their mothers. The main beneficiaries of the programme were aimed to be the girl child up to her adolescence, all children below 6 years of age, pregnant and lactating mothers. The gender promotion of the girl child by trying to bring her at par with the male child is a key component of the scheme.

Background[edit]
Majority of children in India have underprivileged childhoods starting from birth. The infant mortality rate of Indian children is 44and the under-five mortality rate is 93 and 25% of newborn children are underweight among other nutritional, immunization and educational deficiencies of children in India. Figures for India are substantially worse than the developing country average.

Given such a daunting challenge, ICDS was first launched in 1975in accordance to the National Policy for Children in India.Over the years it has grown into one of the largest integrated family and community welfare schemes in the world.Given its effectiveness over the last few decades, Government of India has committed towards ensuring universal availability of the programme.

Objective[edit]

The predefined objectives of ICDS are:
  1. To raise the health and nutritional level of poor Indian children below 6 years of age
  2. To create a base for proper mental, physical and social development of children in India
  3. To reduce instances of mortality, malnutrition and school dropouts among Indian Children
  4. To coordinate activities of policy formulation and implementation among all departments of various ministries involved in the different government programmes and schemes aimed at child development across India.
  5. To provide health and nutritional information and education to mothers of young children to enhance child rearing capabilities of mothers in country of India

Scope of Services[edit]

The following services are sponsored under ICDS to help achieve its objectives:
  1. Immunization
  2. Supplementary nutrition
  3. Health checkup
  4. Referral services
  5. Pre-school non formal education
  6. Nutrition and Health information

Implementation[edit]

For nutritional purposes ICDS provides 300 calories (with 8-10 grams of protein) every day to every child below 6 years of age.For adolescent girls it is up to 500 calories with up to 25 grams of protein everyday.
Delivery of services under ICDS scheme is managed in an integrated manner through Anganwadi centres, its workers and helpers. The services of Immunisation, Health Check-up and Referral Services delivered through Public Health Infrastructure under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.UNICEF has provided essential supplies for the ICDS scheme since 1975.World Bank has also assisted with the financial and technical support for the programme. The cost of ICDS programme averages $10–$22 per child a year. The scheme is Centrally sponsored with the state governments contributing up to INR1.00 (1.7¢ US) per day per child.
Furthermore, in 2008, the GOI adopted the World Health Organization (WHO) standards for measuring and monitoring the child growth and development, both for the ICDS and the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM).These standards were developed by WHO through an intensive study of six developing countries since 1997.They are known as New WHO Child Growth Standard and measure of physical growth, nutritional status and motor development of children from birth to 5 years age.

Impact[edit]

By end of 2010, the programme is claiming to reach 8.06 million expectant, pregnant and lactating mothers along with 39.35 million children (under 6 years of age). There are 6,719 operational projects with 1,241,749 operational Aanganwadi centres.Several positive benefits of the programme have been documented and reported
  • A study in states of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka demonstrated significant improvement in the mental and social development of all children irrespective of their gender.
  • A 1992 study of National Institute of Public Cooperation and Child Development confirmed improvements in birth-weight and infant mortality of Indian children along with improved immunization and nutrition.
However, World Bank has also highlighted certain key shortcomings of the programme including inability to target the girl child improvements, participation of wealthier children more than the poorer children and lowest level of funding for the poorest and the most undernourished states of India.

GTU Delays To Declare Final semester Results OF B.E. Degree

GTU DELAYED TO DECLARE RESULTS

hello,
Gujarat technical university (GTU) has delayed to declare final semester results of B.E. degree.around 20,000 students are studying in final semester. They all are worried badly. The examination ended on 9th may,but results still not came therefore students are waiting to declare result as fast as more.

only some of students given admission in universities abroad face the threat of cancellation of their admission if there is further delay in declaring the results.Usually the results are declared within 40 days of the examination, but this year, 50 days have passed and students are still waiting for their results.

GTU officials said that the assessment of the answer sheets was completed on Monday, so the university hopes to declare the result by next week. Earlier, the GTU used to assemble the professors at one place and get the papers checked. The wait for the final merit list stretches on, keeping the 68,000 students who have applied for admission to engineering colleges on tenterhooks.

The Admission Committee for Professional Courses (ACPC) had assured students that the final merit list will be declared by Monday, but Monday has passed and the merit list has still not been declared. The ACPC has now promised to announce the merit list on Tuesday. Merit marks are essential for students as well as college administrators, as these will be used to finalize admissions to engineering colleges.

Delhi University Cutoffs:100% in Ram Lal College

hello,
Delhi University Cutoffs declared..Ram Lal Anand has set the cutoff for its computer science course at a perfect 100% (for non-science aspirants),Like SRCC had done in 2011, as Delhi University declared the first cutoffs for admission it undergraduate course. The cutoffs, for inexplicable reasons, were released very late on Wednesday night

It's an all new undergraduate programme in the university at this year and many of seats in many courses has risen significantly, the legacy of high cutoffs continues. That is true particularly for courses such as Journalism and English, for which students were earlier admitted through centralized entrance tests. Cutoffs touched a new high for both courses, with Lady Shri Ram setting the bar at 97.5%-98.5% for Journalism and Hindu at 97.75%-98.5% for English — equaling those of Economics and Commerce.

To secure a seat in a DU college would gets much harder despite many popular colleges are trying not to raise the bar too high. Cutoffs of  off-campuscolleges continue to rise significantly, with some colleges registering an increase of 14%.

At the 20-old colleges using to admit students for English honors via a centralized aptitude test, even students with average scores stood a chance. While LSR's journalism cutoff touches those of both bachelors in commerce and economics, at Delhi College of Arts and Commerce it is 97.5%.Similarly, the cutoff for English at LSR is 97%, at Hindu it is 97.75%-98.5% and at DCAC it is 95%. All three were CATE colleges where students scoring 60% in class XII could were eligible for the entrance test.

Even for non-CATE colleges, English seats have got dearer with Deshbandhu's cutoff spiraling by 10% to 85%. At ARSD, it is 90%, up by 6%. Seven out of the eight North Campus colleges — such as Hansraj, Kirori Mal, Miranda House, Ramjas, Daulat Ram and IP College — have set the cutoff for English at more than 92%.

Though commerce continues to record high cutoffs in the most campus colleges, there are off-campus colleges and Daulat Ram which have lowered the bar by as much as 3% (Laxmi Bai). Hindu recorded the highest cutoff in the subject, higher even than that of SRCC, at 96.75-99.75.
